It is with great pleasure that we announce today Shikha Singh has returned to The St Petersburg Tennis Center!!

Many of you will remember when Shikha was a Professional here, bringing his talented and affable brand of tennis coaching to the many adults and juniors who called SPTC their home.

A talented player, he hails from Mumbai, India; and after playing juniors in India, he played for Eckerd College. Following his 4 years, he became a tennis professional at SPTC. He’s worked under the tutelage of Tommy Thompson and Jackie Keller, who helped in refining his coaching skills. Following an extended stint at Racquet Club North East, as Director of Tennis, Shikha has decided to focus more on his family and teaching which he so loves. Shikha adds to the fantastic team of coaches here at SPTC, and we’re all very excited and fortunate to have him back at SPTC!!

Shikha will have his schedule available for lessons/ clinics posted on Court Reserve, and we encourage you to take a lesson…or three.:-)

Please take a moment to welcome back this remarkable tennis player/ coach to the SPTC Family!!

Did you know that the SPTC has been adopted by a “Community Cat”?

Who here has had Amigo greet them on the front porch on your way in or out of the Tennis Center?? I’ve been told by some parents with children participating in our Couriers Kids programs that the REAL reason their sons and daughters want to get down to the Tennis Center early is to “see the kitty”.

Our SPTC Pro Maria Francesa has taken the lead in making sure there is plenty of food, water and a safe place to rest for Amigo, and over the last year he has become far more trusting and a LOT heavier with all the kibble and treats the staff provides to him.

Ever notice the clipped ear on Amigo? An eartip like that typically means the cat has been through a trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) program at some point in their life. This could have been because while Amigo was not considered feral, he wasn’t acclimated early enough in life with humans to be able to be placed in a home.

So, say “hello” to Amigo on your way in, but use a bit of judgement in approaching or petting him, as a lot of attention can get him overstimulated. As with any cat, always better to let them approach you than you seek them out, right?

You know you've done some good work on your cross-court backhand practice with the ball machine when all of the balls are nestled in the back corner of the court on the AD side, and not a single one is to be found on the DEUCE side. Of course, we won't mention the 12 balls that ended up in the net… 😉

BTW, did you know that the SPTC has a ball machine available for Seasonal and Annual Members? A great way to work on "grooving" your tennis strokes, ask us about it at the Front Desk next time you're in!
